during pick-up hours
If you ordered plants, you will receive a reminder email with instructions regarding pickup. If you have any questions about your order, please email [email protected] with “NATIVE PLANT SALE” in the subject line.
Pick up online orders and shop our walk-in sale for more native plants
on Friday September 12th, 4 PM-6 PM
and Saturday morning, September 13th, 10 am-12 noon,
at 33 Gallows Lane, New London, CT.
A wide variety of member-donated & vendor plants will be available for purchase on a walk-in basis during pick-up hours. At this time, we do not know everything that will be in our walk-in sale. Historically, we have had an interesting and diverse selection of both popular and unusual species that were not offered online, with an emphasis on local ecotype (Eco59) and locally grown natives. These will be sold on a first come, first served basis.
Preview Hour for Members of The Connecticut College Arboretum
& Wild Ones
Friday, September 12th, 3 PM-4 PM
Consider becoming a member of Wild Ones today to enjoy this benefit. Then stop by to see what new & exciting native plants you can add to your garden!
There is still time to donate plants…
Wild Ones and Arboretum members generously supply many plants for the walk-in sale. The more and varied donations we receive, the more interesting and fun the sale will be! Straight species, seed-grown plants are preferred (NOT named cultivars) since their genetic diversity provides resilience in the face of a changing environment. You can also donate surplus seedlings that have sown themselves around your yard or divisions from an expanding colony (e.g., ground covers). Plants should have well-established root systems to be ready to go into the ground. It is critical that plants be correctly identified. If unsure, consult credible sources such as USDA Plants, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, UCONN Plants or GoBotany for help. We also ask that you help us avoid the spread of invasive jumping worms, which damage soils and threaten to degrade native ecosystems by following these guidelines for plant sales.
Plants may be dropped off at 33 Gallows Lane, New London during the week after Labor Day, Sept 2-7 under a canopy that will be set up in the parking lot. While we don’t expect you to tell us the exact numbers and sizes of pots for each species, it is helpful to get a rough idea of the quantity, size(s) and types of plants being donated. If you have plants to donate, email Lydia ([email protected]) with “Plant Sale Donation” in the Subject line. This is not a firm commitment, but will help us decide what else to purchase for the walk in sale.
…and Volunteer for the Sale
Our sales can’t happen without many individuals stepping up to organize plants for the walk-in sale, to assemble online orders for pick-up and to assist plant sale customers during pick-up and walk-in sale hours. We expect there to be plenty for volunteers to do during the week beginning on Monday, September 8th and continuing until we gather up any unsold plants Saturday, Sept 13th at noon. Members will receive an email with a link to sign up for specific times and tasks within the next few weeks. Or you can email Lydia ([email protected]) if you’d like to help.
